» ROSWELL, NM -- part one

summer 2003... while visiting family in eastern New Mexico for a wedding, we found ourselves with an afternoon to kill. what to do? WHAT DO DO? why, you drive 90 miles to Roswell and look for aliens!

it was hot. REAL HOT. 100 degrees in the shade. so we jumped in the rental van, cranked up the AC and headed to Roswell. we were in luck. every July they host the Annual UFO Festival. we got tee shirts and took pictures.

the highway to Roswell, NM -- part one
lots of highway. endless ribbons of highway. even at 90 mph,
it took forever to get there. and it was hot: 105 degrees.

 

dairy capital?
that's not what I heard. I heard there were aliens and
space ships raining down from above.

 

the UFO festival
our first stop: the annual UFO festival. Lots of tourists
& children. And lots lf souvenirs, balloons, food-on-a-stick, etc.
I bought some UFO salsa that was pretty darn good.

 

fried cheese on a stick
speaking of food-on-a-stick, they were selling fried cheese on a stick.
It was as gross as it sounds, which matches exactly how gross
it looks on a stick. It tasted like hot grease.

 

just the facts...
it wasn't easy to find the nutritional information about
cheese-on-a-stick. It appears to be a good source of sodium
and saturated fat. If you're into that.

 

street lights from outer space
This is the coolest thing about downtown Roswell, NM. They paint
little alien eyes on the street lights. Very cool.
